Indigenous undergraduate students from universities across Canada are invited to apply to the eight-week program that gives students an opportunity for hands-on experience in a graduate research environment.
Students are matched with a faculty professor at McMaster University, and over the course of eight weeks, students will either work on an independent research project, or contribute to one already under way with a research team. While participating in community-based, Indigenous-focused events and activities as well as grad-school prep workshops, students get a taste for what graduate research is all about.
IUSRS scholars are paid a research stipend over the duration of the program; there is no cost to participate. Preference may be given to applicants currently in their third or fourth year of undergraduate studies. Acceptance into the program also depends on the availability of a suitable faculty supervisor to match with a student’s interests.
The 2017 program runs from May 23 to July 23.
